I saw a neat video produced by Prager University that I encourage you to watch. It only takes a few minutes and you will enjoy it. Follow this link:

Its central message of being content with yourself and not comparing what you have, to others is right on spot. So many people compare themselves to others and it drives them bonkers because they want what others have and in particular their money, fame, power, and significant accomplishments, but cannot seem to ever obtain it.

A close look at the lives of those who we envy will more often than not reveal that regardless of their status in life these people face the same problems in the world as every other poor slob out there trying to make it. In fact, all too often these folks face far more obstacles, because with money and all the rest come headaches and temptations beyond the pale.

Many people live false lives and should be pitied and prayed for instead of envied. I know an attorney who has a Porsche, Land Rover, a mansion filled with original artwork, a race horse and a trophy wife. One would think: Now there is someone to envy. Sadly, the attorney also has a mistress and his wife has a tennis pro lover and they both want a divorce but cannot afford it and are currently facing bankruptcy. They have been living way beyond their means and it has caught up with them.

I recently read of famed Democrat Nancy Pelosi and her severe drinking problem. She and her husband have a boatload of money, power, fame, and accomplishments, but she looks to consuming huge quantities of alcohol to face life. I wouldn’t trade places with her for 1000 times what she has.

The Bible encourages us to be content and the Lord does not lightly gloss over His desire that we should not covet what others have. It is number 10 on the “Big Ten”  – Commandments.

Okay so you say, “Yeah but I want all those nice things.” Nothing wrong with that, just don’t covet or be jealous. In fact, pour your heart out to the Lord, work hard and smart, be generous, and HAVE FAITH! We can trust in “the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6:17). We can know that God has a glorious inheritance for those who have faith in Him. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6)

Listen to the Apostle Paul:

Philippians 4:11

“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
